In 1897 Ian’s great-grandfather Joseph T. Rowland embarked upon a two year voyage aboard the Glasgow built barque Cloch. From Liverpool he sailed to San Francisco, South Africa and Chile rounding Cape Horn four times, along the way being inducted into the court of King Neptune as he crossed the equator. In later years he wrote an account of his voyage, the document which provided the inspiration for this fascinating talk.
